get a check on weather and traffic. >> we're getting a lot of e- mails. we will see very little effect of hurricane earl. baltimore. there will not be a big title search. this will all be down at the beach. keep that in mind when we do the forecast. let's talk about what will happen here in baltimore. hazy conditions out there. there is a lot of pollution in the air. 70 degrees at the top of the hour. lots of sunshine with a high temperature of 95 this afternoon. the average high temperature is 82. we are way above the mark. better news for the upcoming weekend. >> are you tired of answering questions from e-mail? >> pretty much. >> no need to evacuate. >> we are looking at a good ride on the major roadways.
there is a downed tree near glen eagles scored in towson. all lanes are closed there. volume is still on the light side. we're running smoothly on all of the major roadways. delays will crop opt in about 30 minutes. this is the harrisburg expressway coming at of york road. this is southbound traffic looking a little bit heavy as volume starts to build there. this is the southwest corner of the beltway at frederick road. we will keep you posted on anything new that crops up. that is the latest on traffic pulse 11. now back to you. >> we begin with hurricane earl still more than 1,000 miles away from ocean city. it is causing concern up and down the eastern seaboard. >> officials are taking some preventive measures.
a hurricane watch has been issued for most of north carolina's coast. even if earl does not come ashore, it is expect to bring dangerous surf and gusting wind from the carolinas and into canada. martin o'malley sat down to talk about what to expect. >> we get to the mid atlantic, we have more time, not much more time. we expect if earl stays on its current track, we could see very dangerous surf, beach erosion. w-lying roads could be impacted. >> earl is down to a category 3 storm. you cannot attract earl on the

83-year-old woman. >> it is a disturbing crime. we will do everything we can to bring this case to closure. >> police are looking for a white male in his early 20's. officers are stepping up neighborhood patrols. they advised neighbors on better ways to protect themselves. >> have a motion detector lighting. secured your front door, your windows, at any gates, make sure you lock those. >> anyone with information is being asked to call anne arundel county police. now back to you. >> police are investigating a pair of unrelated shootings in glen bernie. a man was shot tuesday morning and was taken to shock trauma. no word on the suspect or a motive.
police responded to a double shooting where authorities say shotmen apparently each other. >> police have made an arrest in the drowning at the inner harbor two years ago. wayne black has been arrested and charged in the death and drowning of ankush gupta. this was in 2008. the body was discovered in the water just off of light street. police did not say how he ended up in the water. baltimore has now recorded its 144th homicide this year. it was on harris avenue in east baltimore. police said he was rushed to a hospital where he later died. no word on a possible motive.
this time last year there were 147 murders in baltimore city. a judge ruled the security guard that identified two men in a security video can testify. the defense argued the jury should be allowed to make its own determination after watching the video, but that motion was denied. >> president obama made the end to u.s. combat in iraq official last night. >> the president was quick to point out this was no victory speech. we have more and what this means for local service men and women and their families. >> operation for rocky freedom is over. >> as the president -- operation eructing freed iraqi freedom is.

which may prove to be similar to stem cells and hold promise for curing diseases. the announcement was made on monday. the cells were first found in the pancreas. they hope these cells can play a role in the repair of the human body because they are related to stem cells. they are described as the of stem cells. >> the meeting planet has been found to reduce heart attacks per it emphasizes fruits and vegetables while reducing saturated fats and sugar. patients on the dash plan lowered their risk of heart attack by 18%. it also reduced bad cholesterol and lowered cholesterol, especially in african americans.

>> today is going to be exactly like yesterday. the air quality will be in the port range. we have not had much movement in the air. code red air quality. if you have respiratory problems, you will feel that today. almost 80 downtown. 67 in parkton. the weather map looks almost exactly the same as yesterday. high pressure will give us another hot day with plenty of sunshine. we are watching a cold front and this will be an important front. this will hopefully kicked earl away from the delmarva beaches. it is kind of a race. if the hurricane gets investor, it will be closer to the coast and we will see more of an impact. earl is down to a category 3 storm with sustained winds of
125 miles an hour. this is still a dangerous hurricane. a shift in the track of 100 miles can make a difference between the amount of damage. the strong winds are around the eye of the storm. that is what we are tracking. these storms are 40 miles across. that i should pass to the east of the outer banks -- that eye should pass to the east of the battered banks. as far as the delmarva beaches, the latest track keeps it 200 miles off the coast on friday. again, the tropical storm-force winds got almost 200 miles from the center, and the storm is over 400 miles across. that is still close enough to
affect ocean city and the delmarva beaches on friday. at the beach on friday, the time frame is early friday into the early nighttime hours on friday. i think there will be big waves and heavy surf. wave heights of 10 to 12 feet at the beach. wind gusts over 50, 60 miles per hour. very heavy rain at the beach and possible beach erosion. that is down at the beach on friday. we have little effect here in baltimore on friday. will not see a surge on the chesapeake bay. we could see some rain from the front, not the hurricane itself. mostly sunny is the forecast for today. high temperatures in the mid 90's. sunrise coming up and at 6:35.
those temperatures dropping back into the upper 60's and low 70's. it will be cooler on thursday and friday. it will still be hot. 92 on thursday. the front will come through on friday. it will give us a chance for some showers and thunderstorms. that rain will not be from the storm around baltimore. we are still setting up for a nice weekend. even at the beach, it should be the weekend. of just wait for the storm to pass. >> 70 degrees on tv hill. so much more ahead. >> we are still taking your answers to our water cooler question of the day. >> here is a look at last night's winning maryland lottery numbers. good luck.
